Guard and Reserve Members Make Great Officers
The qualities that make a great police officer are coincidentally the same qualities that make a great soldier.

Both soldiers and police officers have a desire to serve their community and their country, to protect citizens and their rights. Much like serving in the military, a career in law enforcement requires physical and mental strength, dedication, and a desire to serve and protect those in need. Whether separating from active military service, or continuing as a Guard or Reservist, a career in law enforcement is a natural transition.
If you formerly served in the military, or are currently serving as a member of the National Guard or Reserve, consider a career with the Albuquerque Police Department. APD is looking for highly motivated, physically and mentally fit military veterans to join our ranks.
The Albuquerque Police Department has been recognized by New Mexico ESGR, a Department of Defense program, as an employer that supports Guard and Reserve service. Our 26-week police academy is not a live-in law enforcement academy, which allows time for Guard and Reserve activities. Once hired, APD accommodates the demands of your military duty by offering 420 hours of leave for military obligations. We also offer TCLEOSE reciprocity. (Applicable outside of Texas).
For a successful police career with Albuquerque Police, applicants should hold common values in integrity, respect, fairness, and pride. Our law enforcement officers are dedicated professionals who are passionate about service to their community and the dignity of all people.
Rejoin the civilian workforce with a career in law enforcement. We offer sign on incentives and a fully funded, fixed pension at 25 years. Please fill out the Albuquerque Police application or call our recruiters at 1-800-7POLICE. Thank you for your interest in serving the people of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
