The Albuquerque Police Department offers careers in law enforcement for cadets who successfully pass our police academy, as well as for lateral transfers and police service aides. Applicants must pass all of the Albuquerque Police Academy requirements to be accepted.
The Albuquerque Police Department Academy is not for everyone, but if you are dedicated to serving the citizens of Albuquerque, we welcome your application for police jobs.

When you become an Albuquerque Police Officer, you will receive:
- A great opportunity to earn at least 25-percent above your base salary in overtime and benefits
- The potential to earn an excess of $87,000 as a patrolman (averaged from the top 50 earning patrol officers)
- Ten paid holidays and 100 hours of vacation a year
- The opportunity to earn 150 hours of compensation
- 90-percent of your top five years of pay with the ability to retire after 25 years of dedicated service
- The opportunity to work in 30 different specialized units
You will also be paid a $5,000 hiring bonus for joining one of the best law enforcement agencies in the country, after successfully completing our academy and on-the-job training.
Following the academy and at least two years on patrol, officers can apply for career opportunities in property crimes, special investigations, training, tactical team, violent crimes, crime scene investigations or traffic investigations.

Our 26-week police academy is not a live-in law enforcement academy, however it is a stressful environment which helps cadets prepare for the environment they will encounter as an officer. Applicants accepted into the academy begin earning salary and benefits from the first day.
